What is the difference between Statement of Result and Certificate?

This statement of results is not a certificate. The University of Cambridge International Examinations reserves the right to amend the information on this statement. Results will be confirmed by the issue of certificates.

How are grades reported on results?

Syllabus grades for all examination types are reported on the Statements of Results as an upper case letter followed by the corresponding lower case letter in brackets, e.g. B(b). This format is used as a security feature to prevent grades being altered by hand.

GCE AS Level:
GCE AS Level grades a(a), b(b), c(c), d(d) or e(e) indicate the standard reached, grade a(a) being the highest and grade e(e) the lowest. Performances below the standard of grade e(e) are not reported on certificates. The content and difficulty of a GCE AS Level examination is equivalent to the first half of a corresponding GCE A Level. UNGRADED indicates a standard below that required for grade.

GCE A Level:
GCE A Level grades A*(a*), A(a), B(b), C(c), D(d) or E(e) indicate the standard reached, grade A(a*) being the highest and grade E(e) the lowest. Performances below the standard of grade E(e) are not reported on certificates. UNGRADED indicates a standard below that required for grade.

GCE ORDINARY LEVEL (GCE O Level):
GCE 0 Level grades A*(a*), A(a), B(b), C(c), D(d) or E(e) indicate the standard reached, grade A*(a*) being the highest and grade E(e) the lowest. Performances below the standard of grade E(e) are not reported on certificates. UNGRADED indicates a standard below that required for grade.

What does NO RESULT mean?

For each qualification 'NO RESULT' indicates that a result cannot be issued because of absence for the whole or part of the examination in the syllabus or because of a decision not to issue a result for some other reason.

What does PENDING mean?

For each qualification, PENDING indicates that a result cannot be issued at present but will follow in due course.

What does UNGRADED mean?

UNGRADED indicates that the student has failed to reach the standard required for a pass. UNGRADED will be reported on the Statement of Results but not on the certificate.

What does TO BE ISSUED mean?

For some Cambridge IGCSE syllabuses 'TO BE ISSUED' indicates that the result will be awarded in the November series.

What should schools do if the information on the Statement of Results is incorrect?

You should immediately inform British Council in writing of any errors in school or student names on Statements of Results so that the required amendments can be made before certificates are issued.

Why have students received an AS Level grade when they were entered for an A Level?

If a candidate receives a Cambridge International AS Level result but was entered for a Cambridge International A-Level examination, it shows that the candidate reached the standard required for the AS papers, but not in the A-Level as a whole. Cambridge awards the candidate the result that they would have achieved if they had been entered for the Cambridge International AS-Level.

Will Cambridge issue a replacement certificate due to incorrect candidate information?

Certificates and certifying statements are issued in the name of the candidate at the time the award is made. Replacement certificates and certifying statements will not be provided to accommodate a subsequent name change.

We will consider requests to correct minor errors in the spelling or appearance of a candidate’s name or to correct a date of birth. We can only process requests if the original certificate is returned to Cambridge by a registered centre, relevant ID is provided on the request and the request is made within 18 months from the date of issue of the original certificate.

Whilst we appreciate this may cause candidates some inconvenience, certificates and certifying statements must show the status of the candidate at the time of the examination. We would advise candidates in this situation to present their certificate with accompanying legal documentation to any interested parties.
