About Pakistan/UK: New Perspectives

Marking the 75th anniversary of Pakistan, Pakistan/UK: New Perspectives is taking place from March - August 2022. The programme showcases the cultural wealth and contemporary creativity of both countries; facilitate professional collaboration for culture, creative and education sectors; and focus on a shared future through building lasting partnerships. It focuses on challenging perceptions, particularly amongst the younger generation in both countries. An expansive programme explores collaborations across the following themes:

Culture & Heritage: Building innovative partnerships in the arts and cultural sectors of both countries;
Environment and sustainability: Supporting the next generation of artists and creative entrepreneurs in Pakistan and UK to collaborate in tackling today’s environmental challenges;
Women & girls: Providing opportunities for young people in Pakistan and UK, especially young women and girls, to develop skills and in the areas of arts and education addressing Global challenges.

Art South Asia Project

ASAP under Pakistan/UK: New perspectives is partnering with British Council to support three initiatives to widen and deepen the engagement with modern and contemporary visual arts.

Gender Ecologies: New Perspectives

Gender Ecologies: New Perspectives brings together a group of women from Pakistan, including artisans and students, to build, decorate, and demonstrate the use of a chulah (a traditional Pakistani cooking stove)

Go Digital: Pakistan - Wales

Through Go Digital, British Council is supporting three new partnerships between artists and arts organisations in Wales and Pakistan.

What Is Seen and What Is Not

Through ‘What is Seen and What is Not’, Osman Yousefzada will create a bridge between cultures, a space where communities can gather to exchange dialogue about shared rituals.

Karachi Biennale

The Pakistan/UK: New Perspectives programme is partnering with the Karachi Biennale 2022 to support the design and delivery of two immersive exhibitions at the Biennale.

Lahore Biennale

The Lahore Biennale Foundation is partnering with the British Council to develop a virtual museum.

New Perspectives

The project through an open call has awarded four grants to proposals co-developed between Pakistan and UK partners that offer opportunities for cross-cultural creative practices, knowledge exchange and new artistic work.

Pakistan - UK Higher Education Links

Under the Project eight Pakistani and eight UK universities/organisations have developed linkages on the themes of heritage, knowledge economies and cultural tourism.

Pakistan Stories

In collaboration with Patakha Pictures in Pakistan and Scottish Documentary Institute in the UK, Pakistan Stories seeks to support a new generation of female Pakistani documentary filmmakers.

Saahil Ki Kahaaniya - Stories from the Coast

Saahil ki Kahaaniyan - Stories from the Coast is a collaborative project by Karachi-based Koel Gallery and the Birmingham-based Transforming Narratives Project, supported by Arts Council England and the British Council.
