How long is an IELTS score valid?

An IELTS Test Report Form (TRF) is valid for two (2) years.

How soon can a candidate resit for the test?

A candidate can re-sit or take the IELTS test at any time.

What is the minimum age limit for IELTS?

IELTS test is not recommended for candidates under 16 years. 

I have entered the wrong passport/CNIC number at the time of registration. How can I change it?

The passport number can be changed only up to 2 days prior to the exam date. The request has to be emailed to info@britishcouncil.org.pkIf the change is requested within 1 day of the exam date, the candidate may not be able to take the exam on the registered exam date

I have booked my IELTS test, but my CNIC/Passport has expired. Will I be able to take the test?

You can use the CNIC/passport if it is still valid and in your physical possession as on the date of your IELTS Test dates (LRW and Speaking). If validity has expired, you will need to reschedule your IELTS Exam as the CNIC/passport is the only valid form of ID accepted for IELTS.

Will I get the IELTS speaking slot that I have chosen during the registration?

It is our endeavour to offer the speaking slot chosen by the candidate, however given the current COVID situation, there is a possibility of the speaking time slot chosen by the candidates not being available. Details of the test (venue, date, and time) are sent to the candidates 2-3 days prior to the test date on the registered email address and mobile number.

When will I receive venue details for my IELTS test?

You will receive an email and SMS at your registered email ID and mobile number confirming your venue details and schedule of your IELTS, 2-3 days prior to the exam date.

I need to postpone/cancel my IELTS registration? What process should I follow?

What do I do if I have a suggestion or complaint regarding an incident on the test day?

You can raise a complaint on the test day, a written statement is to be recorded and handed over to the supervisor on the Candidate Complaint/Feedback Form. For any complaint raised after the exam session, while the concern will be recorded and considered for future reference, but the candidate will not be accommodated for any claim.

What can I take into the examination room?

Only pens, pencils and erasers. You must bring the passport/national identity card you used on the IELTS Application Form to the test. A transparent water bottle is allowed without labels. You must leave everything else outside the examination room. Mobile phones and pagers must be switched off and placed with personal belongings in the area designated by the supervisor.

How are the tests marked?

IELTS uses a 9-band scoring system to report test scores in a consistent manner. You receive individual band scores for Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking and an Overall Band Score on a band scale from one to nine. For information on marking please click here.

When will I receive my IELTS results?

Pen and paper-based IELTS (PB IELTS): Results will be available online on the 13th day after the test date.

Computer-delivered IELTS (CD IELTS): Results will be available online within 3-5 days after the test date. 

 Pen and Paper-Based (IELTS for UKVI): Results will be available online on the 13th day after the test date.

Computer-delivered IELTS (IELTS for UKVI): Results will be available online within 3-5 days after the test date.

IELTS for UKVI Life Skills: Results will be available online on the 7th day after the test date.

Please allow at least 7 working days for the delivery (in case of a failed delivery we will contact you for correction/confirmation of address and resend the TRF within these 7 working days) please make sure to provide a local complete and valid address for timely delivery. For international addresses, kindly refer to our pricing policy for the fee structure.

My result is released but I have not received my Test Report Form (TRF). What should I do?

If your result has been released, you will receive the TRF at your registered address within 7 working days, provided it was a complete courier accessible address. In case, you have not received it, please write to us at info@britishcouncil.org.pk mentioning your IELTS registration number.

What happens if I am unable to appear for the test?

In the event a registered candidate fails to appear for their IELTS test, he/she is termed as absent and no refund is applicable to the candidate.

If you are unable to appear due to a medical/emergency condition, please inform prior to the test date with evidence for us to consider your application for transfer/refund. Deductions are applicable as per taxes.

How can I send my IELTS scores to the Universities I am applying to?

We can send up to five free additional copies of your TRF directly to receiving organizations (viz. universities, immigration offices, etc) you are applying to. If you would like us to do this, please include the relevant addresses when you book your test. These free TRF copies will be sent to the receiving organizations (RO) in 7 working days after the result declaration date and you will be notified via an SMS. Can I apply for the replacement of the Test Report Form (TRF)?

Candidates are entitled to only one copy of the Test Report Form. You can avail another copy of the TRF if you have applied for Canadian Immigration and Citizenship and can provide us with the relevant documents. Please email your request with relevant documents at info@britishcouncil.org.pk

How can I get my IELTS test re-marked? – Enquiry on Result (EOR)

If you did not receive the score you expected, you can apply for your test to be re-marked. This is called an Enquiry on Results (EOR). You can choose which test sections you want to be re-marked and will need to request this at the test centre where you sat the test.

Can I transfer my IELTS exam to the next available date?

Yes, the exam can be transferred to a later available date. Please click here to refer to our IELTS Test Day Transfer Policy.

I had registered for the paper-based IELTS. Can I transfer myself to the computer-based IELTS now?

Yes, you can change from a paper-based IELTS test to a computer-delivered test now. Please write to info@britishcouncil.org.pkwith your IELTS Registration number, passport number, city, current test date, and your preferred test date for Computer-delivered IELTS.

I’ve already taken IELTS. Can I still use my result to apply to UK Visas and Immigration?

Your IELTS result is valid for two years starting from the date of your exam. Your valid TRF can be used for Visa applications.

Can I get another copy of my results?

You can request for another copy of your IELTS results up-to 5, however please refer to our pricing policy for the free structure. Charges are applicable.

However, copies of your original valid IELTS results can be sent to recognizing international agencies/organizations for appropriate purposes. You have to pay a fee certain fee please refer to our pricing policy for the free structure.

Do I take all parts of the test on the same day? Which part do I take first?

The Listening, Reading and Writing components of the test are always completed immediately after each other and with no break. You will do the Listening component first followed by the Reading and Writing components of the test. You will take the Speaking test up to 7 days either before or after the test date, in the case of paper-based IELTS whereas for computer-delivered IELTS, your speaking section is completed on the same day.

How can I check my IELTS result Online?

You can log in to the Test TakerPortal to preview your resultsIELTS Results remain online for 28 days but should not be used as an official confirmation of your performance.

If you have taken IELTS on paper, you will be able to preview your results after 13 calendar days from the test date.

If you have taken IELTS on a computer, you will be able to preview your results after 3 to 5 calendar days from the test date.
